Grandfather Miller rides the train

Mr and Mrs Miller had a daughter and a son. Their son and his wife had a baby. Mr and Mrs Miller loved their grandson. They were very happy. They took many pictures of their grandson. Soon after, their daughter also had a baby. Mrs Miller
went to their daughter’s house to help with the baby. Mr Miller stayed at home to work.

One evening, Mr Miller’s daughter phoned him and said, “Please come and see the baby this weekend.”

Mr Miller agreed, “I will be there on Friday night. I will stay until Monday morning.”

He told all the people at work about his granddaughter. He showed everyone pictures. He was a proud grandfather. On Friday evening, Mr Miller boarded the train. He saw three empty seats. There was an old woman sitting in the seat nearest to the door. “Are you a grandmother?” Mr Miller asked.

“Yes, I am. I have three grandsons.”

“Thank you. Have a good evening,” said Mr Miller and then walked away. Mr Miller walked to the second empty seat. There was an old man sitting next to the seat. “Are you a grandfather?” Mr Miller asked.

“I am. I have two grandsons and three granddaughters.”

“Thank you,” said Mr Miller and then walked away. Mr Miller walked to the third empty seat. There was a man sitting beside the last empty seat. “Are you a grandfather?” Mr Miller asked.

“I am not a grandfather,” said the man next to the empty seat.

Mr Miller smiled and sat in the empty seat. “It is good that you are not a grandfather. Now, I can show you all the pictures of my grandchildren.”

Mr Miller’s story

We had a grandson. We loved him very much so we always took photographs of him. One day, our daughter had a baby too, and this made us very proud. My wife travelled to our daughter’s house, but I stayed at home because I had a lot
of work. However, my daughter called me one evening and asked me to visit hem so I got on a train. I wanted to show the photos of my grandson to the people on the train so I asked them, “Are you a grandfather? Are you a grandmother?”, but everybody was a grandfather or a grandmother.
