Digging in the garden
Fred and Frank are neighbours. It is autumn and they are working in their gardens. They are harvesting some of their vegetables; and there is a lot of work too: clearing up and digging and sowing seeds. They like to grow huge vegetables.
Frank, holding up a huge pumpkin: “Look at the size of this beauty, Fred. I’m going to scoop out the seeds and grow more of these beauties next year. It’s a prize winner, surely!”
Fred: “Not bad, Frank, not at all bad, but check out this courgette! It’s gigantic. I’m going to cut it up and make some tasty soup. It’s so big I can eat courgette soup for weeks!”
Frank, looking annoyed: “What? Eating courgette soup for weeks? Anyway, just look at my apples! They are so big and juicy.”
Fred, laughing: “They are big, and they also have maggots, look!”
Frank throws the apple on the ground in disgust. Then he laughs, too.
Frank: “Look at that caterpillar, Fred! It’s nibbling on your courgette!”
Fred shouts and throws the courgette down. Then he says: “Still, my caterpillar is much bigger than your maggots, Frank.”
Frank: “Not at all! My maggots are twice the size of your caterpillar! I get the biggest pests in my garden!”
