Security system

Mr and Mrs Young lived in a small town. They had three children. The children
grew up and moved away to the city, but the parents stayed in the small town.
They lived in a small house and were very happy.

Then, Mr Young died. Mrs Young was eighty-five years old. Her children thought
she was too old to live alone. One said to her, “Come and live in a house near
us.” Another child said, “Come and live with me in my house.”

But, Mrs Young did not want to move. She said, “I like my house and this small
town. I am staying here.”

Her children went back to the city. They were worried. Her oldest son called his
sister and said, “There are a lot of burglars there now. One could come into her
house and take her money and nice things. She could be hurt.”

So, that Sunday, the daughter went to her mother’s house. She saw a key on the
ground at the side of the front door. “Mother!” she said. “You should not put
your key there. That is a terrible place! Burglars will see it and open the door!”

Mrs Young smiled. “No burglar will get into my house!”

Her daughter said, “But there is a key right next to the front door!”

“Try to open the door with the key,” Mrs Young said and went back inside.

Her daughter tried to open the door with the key. It made a lot of noise but did
not open the door. Then, suddenly, her mother was standing next to her with a
rolling pin in her hand!

“When I hear the key in the lock, I get this rolling pin and go out through the
back door.”
