An invitation
Mr and Mrs Schultz lived in a flat with their three children. Their oldest son,
James, was fifteen years old. Their middle child, Hannah, was twelve years old.
Their youngest son, Bradley, was five years old.
Mr and Mrs Schultz planned an annual party for all their neighbours. It was going
to be a big party and everyone would come. This year, there was a new
neighbour who lived on the floor above the Schultz family. The new neighbour
lived alone.
On Wednesday, Mr Schultz thought to invite the new neighbour so he knocked
on the neighbour’s door.
“Good afternoon,” the neighbour said.
“Hello,” said Mr Schultz. “My name is Amos Schultz and I live in this building. I
am having a party on Friday at 7:00. Would you come to my party?”
“My name is Peter Delano,” said the neighbour. “Thank you for inviting me, but I
am sorry, I cannot come. I have already been invited to another party.”
“Maybe some other time,” said Mr Schultz and walked away.
On Thursday, Mrs Schultz thought to invite the new neighbour so she knocked
on the neighbour’s door.
“Good morning,” said Mr Delano.
“Hello. My name is Annette Schultz and I live in this building. I would like to
invite you to a party at my flat on Friday at 7:00.”
“My name is Peter Delano,” the neighbour said. “Thank you for the invitation,
but I cannot come. I have already been invited to another party.”
“Maybe next time,” said Mrs Schultz and walked away.
On Friday, at 7:00, Mrs Schultz heard a knock at the door. Mr Delano was at the
door.
“Mr Delano! What a surprise!” said Mrs Schultz. “I thought you had been invited
to a different party.”
Right then, Bradley came up behind his mother and said, “Hello, Mr Delano. I’m
glad you could come to my party!”
