A Table for Three
Mike was never any good when it came to finding girlfriends. He found it impossible to talk to women, and so for the majority of his life he was single, meaning that he and his mother spent lots of time together. Jenny, Mike’s mum, never liked the idea of him being single, so one day, she intervened.
Mike put down the phone after making dinner reservations for the evening with his mum. He had been travelling Europe for the past month, so he had lots of news and stories to update Jenny with.
When the evening came, they travelled into London to the restaurant ‘Bella Carne’. This Italian restaurant was famous for its steak. The chefs always cooked everything to perfection, and Mike was a frequent visitor.
The two walked in and approached a nearby waiter.
“We have a reservation for 2 people at 8 o’clock,” Mike informed the waiter.
“Actually, it’s a table for three,” Jenny added. She turned to Mike. “I called up an hour ago to add a seat for a friend that I want you to meet.” Mike looked confused.
They found their seats, opened their menus, and before long, Jenny’s friend walked through the doors. She was tall, beautiful and definitely closer to Mike’s age then to Jenny’s. Mike shot a knowing look at his mother as he knew that she was trying to set him up with a girlfriend.
“Mike, this is Josephine.” The tall lady sat down next to Mike.
“It’s nice to finally meet you Mike. Your mum talks about you constantly in our evening art classes.”
Mike awkwardly smiled and apologised to the lady, “I’m sorry, but there is a big misunderstanding. I chose this restaurant because my new girlfriend works here, and I was going to introduce my mother to her.”
