A Nightmare Solution

“Aaargh!” Jamie shrieked holding his knees, rocking himself upon his bed.

“What’s the matter?” Jamie’s wife asked him as she tried to console him.

“There’s someone under the bed again! I know he’s there, but when I look under the bed, he moves to the top of the bed next to me!” Jamie frantically exclaimed.

“But there’s no one here, Jamie! It’s just your nightmares again!” Jessica calmly said.

“Yes, but that’s because when I look next to me, he jumps back under the bed, and it just keeps happening! I can’t catch him!” Jamie was extremely frustrated.

This was a recurring problem for Jamie and one that he had had for many years. When morning came, Jessica convinced him to find a psychiatrist who might be able to help him. Jamie searched the Internet and found a phone number for a local psychiatrist who specialised in sleep disorders.

“Good morning, I was wondering how much money your sleep therapy sessions are.”

“Hello. We offer different session lengths, but our one-hour sessions are £200. On average, our clients have them weekly for a year or two,” the receptionist informed Jamie.

“£200! I’m sorry, but I cannot afford that at all.”

With that, Jamie hung up the phone discouragingly.

Later that evening, Jamie walked down to his local pub and sat up to the bar with his head in his hands. The barman asked what Jamie was sad about. Jamie explained.

“People under your bed, you say? Hmm. Well, have you thought about taking the legs of your bed off? Then there’ll be no underneath to your bed!”

Jamie’s eyes brightened.

“I’ve not tried that, but I will, tonight!” Jamie finished his beer and rushed home hopefully.

From that night on, Jamie never had a bad dream or fearful thoughts about people underneath his bed ever again, and all it cost him was one beer.
