The Guitarist
Jason was a rock guitarist in his early twenties. He played the bass guitar in a band. The band were well-loved and always brought in a big crowd. When they landed the biggest concert of their career, everything seemed like it was going according to plan. The audience was massive, the lighting and set were phenomenal, but then they began to play.
The singer sounded amazing, the drummer was rocking, the keyboard player was incredible, but Jason didn’t sound good; in fact, he didn’t sound like anything at all, for no one could hear him.
The song had to continue now that they had started, but Jason looked out at the crowd who looked puzzled as they didn’t understand why he wasn’t playing. His band members were giving him funny looks too as if to say, ‘what are you doing?!’
Jason sharply turned his head to the left wing of the stage, where the sound technicians were. He pointed to his guitar and then to his ear and shook his head. They shrugged back as they didn’t know what the matter was. Everything was pushed up on the mixer board at their end, so they couldn’t get their heads around it.
Jason soon stormed off the stage and over to the technicians.
‘What on earth is going on?” Jason snapped at the technicians.
“We don’t know, everything was working earlier,” one of the men said with a confused tone in his voice.
“Well, clearly you’ve missed something! I’m missing the gig of a lifetime thanks to you, clowns! Sort it out, now!” Jason was livid. His eyes were full of hatred.
He went back onto the stage and began to pretend that he was playing and that everything was fine, just hoping that whatever issue the technicians were having, it would be rectified as soon as possible.
Jason felt embarrassed that he was only pretending to play, and couldn’t bear to look at the audience, so he lowered his eye line to the stage below him. And that is when he saw it. He hadn’t even plugged his guitar into the speaker.
