The Camping Trip

Billy eagerly packed his gear into the boot of his mum’s car, and he was daydreaming on the journey of all the amazing activities that he would take part in on his school camping trip.

The first day was fantastic. They put up their tents, went hiking, had lunch and collected wood from the forest to build a campfire which they sat around in the evening. After telling ghost stories, they all returned to their tents. Billy was over the moon because he was sharing with his four best friends. The tents were very big too, so they had room to mess around and play games before bed.

Billy’s bed was right next to the entrance of the tent, so the draft of the wind woke him up. He now needed the toilet.

“Daniel!” Billy whispered to his sleeping friend at three o’clock in the morning. “Daniel, wake up!” Daniel was in heavy sleep, snoring as loudly as a train so he couldn’t hear Billy at all.

Without any help, Billy emerged from his tent into the darkness that drowned the night. He felt his way along the row of tents to a light in the distance which he soon discovered to be the toilet block. He was as quick as he could and felt his way back into his tent. About five seconds after he had shut his eyes, he was awoken by a very familiar voice.

“BILLY!” Billy frantically sat up in bed to find Mrs Porter above him at the entrance of the tent.

“What do you think you are doing?” she yelled.

“What have I done?” Billy questioned in his head. “Did I break the rules for going to the toilet, is that it?” He couldn’t figure out what the matter was, which was clear to Mrs Porter by the vacant expression on his face.

Mrs Porter went on, “Imagine my surprise when I come back from patrolling the tents to make sure everyone is asleep and find you tucked up in my sleeping bag!”

Billy was mortified. It wasn’t his tent at all.
