The Wedding Guest

Janet and Paul had been planning their wedding for two years. Janet had devoted all of her spare time to make sure that everything went perfectly. The cake, the flowers, the bridesmaids’ dresses and the best man’s tie all matched the colour scheme.

When the day came, everything ran just as Janet had hoped. The guests cried in the vows, the band were faultless, and it was time to go to the venue of the wedding reception.

They had two cocktails prepared for each of the guests who were invited to the meal, and some canapés were offered out on silver platters by the smartest looking waiters Janet and Paul had ever seen.

There was one thing, however, that wasn’t foreseen when Janet was planning the wedding: Timmy. Timmy was one of Paul’s old friends who he hadn’t seen in a long time. He was invited to the ceremony; however, he wasn’t invited to the wedding reception. Regardless, he showed up.

Politely, Janet approached him, “Timmy, it’s really nice to see you; unfortunately, you aren’t on the seating plan for the meal.”

“Oh, that’s ok, I’ll find somewhere to sit,” he calmly responded.

“But there aren’t enough chairs laid out for you!” Janet started to raise her voice.

“This will solve that,” Timmy said as he shuffled an ugly chair tightly between two delicate wooden chairs at one of the beautifully decorated tables.

Hopelessly, Janet turned away and looked for Paul to help her out. “You talk to him, Paul. He’s your friend!”

At that moment, the bell rang to call people to be seated.

“Ask the best man to do it, that’s what he’s for!” Paul replied lazily and walked up to his seat at the top table while Janet went to find the best man.

When she came back with the best man, her face was full of rage as she saw Timmy had sat in her chair at the top table.

“It’s OK, Janet, I’ve found a seat up here, next to Paul!” Timmy said with bright eyes.

Timmy's story

The story

It was Janet and Paul’s wedding day. Janet had been planning it carefully for two years, and when the day came, everything was going smoothly until the wedding reception when Timmy, Paul’s friend, turned up uninvited.

Timmy had been invited to the wedding ceremony but not to the meal, so Janet approached him in order to politely ask him to leave. Janet told him they didn’t have enough chairs, but Timmy found an ugly chair to sit on. When Janet asked Paul to deal with his friend, he said it was the best man’s job, so Janet went for the best man.

As Janet and the best man were approaching the top table, Janet saw that Timmy had already taken her seat next to Paul, and this made her furious.

Timmy said, “It’s OK, Janet, I’ve found a seat up here, next to Paul!” with bright eyes.
