A Double Life
Sergio worked as a florist in a small, quiet village. At midday, he would always stand outside the florist’s and sing his favourite opera songs. His voice was so powerful and moving that it would bring tears to the eyes of the passers-by. One day, a man approached him.
“Hi, I’m Mackenzie. My elderly mum lives next door to your florist’s, and I hear you sing when I visit her each day. I throw huge parties and would pay you well if you sang at one of my events,” the stranger told Sergio. Sergio eagerly accepted, and they exchanged details.
A week later, Sergio was to perform at one of Mackenzie’s parties. He arrived at a huge mansion. There were hundreds of glamorous people at this party, some that Mackenzie knew and some he didn’t.
“It’s like something out of the Great Gatsby,” Sergio thought as he glanced around at the priceless-looking decorations.
That night, the police stormed the party, and Sergio and Mackenzie were never heard of again until a year later on the news.
The news reporter announced, “And now we hear the story of how an Italian Undercover Agent, Paolo, made a huge drug bust by posing as a florist under the name of Sergio. He obtained the job knowing that the Drug Lord, Mackenzie, made frequent visits to his mother, who lived next door to the florist’s. Mackenzie would throw big parties where his drug deals would take place. The parties were elaborate and very popular, so Mackenzie always booked entertainment for his guests. Because he was a good singer, Paolo used this to make contact with Mackenzie by singing outside the florist’s until he was eventually invited to sing at one of Mackenzie’s events. It was that night that Paolo called for backup and made multiple arrests.”

The story (version A)
Sergio, who worked as a florist in a small, quiet village, would always stand outside his florist’s at midday, singing his favourite opera songs. His voice, which was both powerful and moving, would bring tears to the eyes of the passers-by.
One day, a man called Mackenzie approached him. As his elderly mum lived next door to Sergio’s florist’s, he told Sergio that he heard him sing when he visited his mum each day. Then he added that he would pay him well if he sang at one of his events, which Sergio gladly accepted, and, a week later, he was invited to perform at one of Mackenzie’s parties.
When arriving at a huge mansion, he saw hundreds of elegant people at the party. Sergio thought it was like something out of the Great Gatsby. That night, the police stormed the party, and no one heard of Sergio or Mackenzie until a year later on the news. Then a news reporter announced that Sergio, who was an undercover agent, was called Paolo.
He knew not only that the Drug Lord, Mackenzie, frequently visited his mother but also that he would throw big parties where his drug deals would take place. Mackenzie always booked entertainment for his guests, so, being a good singer, Paolo used his talent to capture Mackenzie’s attention.
As a result, he was invited to a massive party where he made multiple arrests that night.
The story (version B)
Sergio worked as a florist in a small, quiet village and, at midday, would always stand outside his florist’s to sing his favourite opera songs. His voice was so powerful and moving that it would bring tears to the eyes of the passers-by. One day, however, a man called Mackenzie, whose elderly mum lived next door to Sergio’s florist’s, approached him saying that he heard him sing when he visited his mum each day.
Then he added that he would pay him well if Sergio sang at one of his events. Sergio gladly accepted the offer, and a week later, he was invited to perform at one of Mackenzie’s parties. When he arrived at a huge mansion, there were hundreds of elegant people at the party which was like something out of the Great Gatsby.
That night, after the police had stormed the party, Sergio and Mackenzie weren’t heard of until a year later on the news when a news reporter announced that Sergio was an undercover agent, called Paolo. He knew that the Drug Lord, Mackenzie, frequently visited his mother. Moreover, Mackenzie would throw big parties and his drug deals would take place there.
In addition, Mackenzie always booked entertainment for his guests. Since Paolo was a good singer, he used his talent to capture Mackenzie’s attention. In the end, he was invited to a massive party where he made multiple arrests that night.
