Modul 5: Hangutánzó szavak: 10 The Little Drummer Ploy
Sounds: beating, fluttering, ripping
Video 01
Hi. Let’s look at some more sounds. Here are some sounds we have already covered in previous stories. The first is beating. We have looked at how a heart beats but what else beats? The sound that a drum makes is a beat. Another sound we have looked at is the fluttering of flags. The flags flutter when the wind blows on them. Something else that flutters with the wind is the wings of birds. Fluttering is a short, light sound. We have looked at how paper crinkles in a previous story but another sound that paper makes is a ‘rip’. The ‘ripping’ sound is made when you tear paper up.
The Story (with explanation):
-Davy was so excited. He’d managed to get a place for his marching band to play in a parade that would be going through London.
Why was Davy so excited? He had managed to get a place in a London Parade for his marching band. A marching band is a group of musicians who play instruments whilst they march in parades or at events.
-He and his fellow musicians had been practising so hard for many years. Finally, it had all paid off.
Davy and the musicians like him, his fellow musicians, had been practising so hard for many years. Finally, it had all paid off. What does Paid off mean? When something pays off, it means it was worth it. So they had practised for years and it was worth it because they were playing in the parade.
-On the morning of the parade, Davy put on his band uniform and made his way to London.
To make your way somewhere means to travel to a certain place. So, on the morning of the parade, Davy put on his band uniform and travelled to London.
-He was a little nervous because his girlfriend, Jenna, was going to show support by watching him, and he had a little surprise for her.
He was nervous because his girlfriend, Jenna, was going to watch the parade to show support. When you show support, you are showing that you are there for them and want the best outcome for them. So he was a little nervous because Jenna was going to be there encouraging him and he had a surprise for her.
-The moment came when the drummers lifted their drumsticks and began beating the drums. Applauses filled the air as the musicians marched past the crowds towards the park where the march would end.
Drumsticks are what drummers use to beat their drums. So, the moment came when the drummers lifted their drumsticks and began beating the drums. Applauses, claps and cheers, filled the air as the musicians marched past the crowds towards the park where the march would end. The crowds were the gathering of people that came to watch them.
-It was a beautiful day for the parade. The sun was beaming, and the fluttering of wings could be heard from the birds that swooped down to hear the drums and trumpets.
It was a beautiful day. What was the sun doing? It was beaming. The fluttering of wings could be heard as the birds swooped down, as they flew down, to hear the drums and trumpets.
-Davy’s heart began to race as they neared the park, and it wasn’t long before he could see Jenna waving on the other side of the barriers.
Davy’s heart began to race, it was beating rapidly as they neared, got closer to, the park. Soon he could see Jenna waving on the other side of the barriers, the fence that separated the crowds of people and the musicians.
-As the band reached Jenna, they stopped walking and turned to face Jenna. The beating of the drums ceased and the musicians took their sheet music and ripped the paper up.
If something ceases, it stops. The beating of the drums stopped as the band reached Jenna. They stopped walking and turned to face her. The musicians took their sheet music, the paper in front of them that they were looking at to know what notes to play and they ripped it up.
-They then began to play Jenna’s favourite love song as Davy knelt down on one knee whilst retrieving an engagement ring from the pocket of his uniform.
What did they play instead? They played Jenna’s favourite love song as Davy knelt down, got down on one knee, whilst retrieving, getting, an engagement ring from the pocket of his uniform.
-The marching band had all been a part of a plan to make Davy’s proposal unforgettable.
A proposal is the occasion when somebody asks their partner to marry them. If something is unforgettable, it means you will always remember it. So, the marching band had all been part of a plan to make Davy’s proposal to Jenna unforgettable.
