The Wedding Singer

Jacob is a fantastic singer. He travels through Europe performing at various occasions.
One day, he was asked to sing for the guests at a wedding while they were waiting for the entrance of the bride. He was very stressed on this particular day as he was running very late and knew that he didn’t have long before the bride was to arrive.

When he arrived at the church, he became alarmed when he saw four limousines parked outside the church. As he was worried that he had missed the bride’s entrance, he hurried inside the building. He didn’t see any of the bridal party, so he let out a sigh of relief and walked over to a microphone at the front of the church.

The guests all looked up at him as he strummed the first song. This song was a slow love song which he played beautifully. Or so he thought. The guests didn’t seem too impressed. He found it rather strange as he was used to big applause after finishing a song.

Without waiting too long, he began another. This one was a very upbeat, funky song about the joy of life. He sang of how brilliant it is to be alive, especially when you share life with the one you love.

Again, there was no response from the guests. Maybe, he needed to introduce himself, he thought.

“Hi everybody. My name’s Jacob. I’ve been asked to sing on this happy day so before the service starts, I’m going to carry on with a couple of happy, feel-good songs that I’m sure you all know.”

Before his hand met his guitar to carry on, a man dressed in a suit approached him.
“I think it’s best you stop young man.”

Almost insulted, Jacob replied, “Well, the bride and groom have asked me to play. I’m sorry, does it not sound good?”

The man looked at him in disbelief. “I don’t know if you’ve got the wrong date or the wrong church for that matter, but this is my wife’s funeral that you’ve walked into.”
