The Bridesmaid
Jennifer was the maid of honour for her sister’s wedding. She wore a light blue dress, which had a wide neckline, short sleeves and a long bow that ran down the back of the dress, almost reaching the floor. The bride and her bridesmaids had got to the church before the guests and groom arrived to take photos with the photographer. The photos came out looking very classy, and Jennifer was relieved that there would at least be some photos of their hair and makeup looking fresh.
They were waiting in a room at the back of the church until everyone had arrived and taken their seats. The girls all bundled into the toilets to touch up their makeup and replace any stray strands of hair. Due to the capacity of the bridesmaids trying to crowd around the mirrors, Jennifer did her make up sitting on one of the toilets.
They all exited and made their way to the back of the church ready to enter before the bride. Every single one of them looked gorgeous. There were six bridesmaids including Jennifer, and being the maid of honour, she was the last to walk down the aisle, just before the bride herself. The guests all sighed in awe at the radiance of the girls.
“Oh, don’t they look beautiful,” one lady whispered.
“The dresses are lovely,” said another towards the front.
The comment that Jennifer could never forget however was, “oh dear.”
That comment started at the back and slowly echoed down through each of the guests as she neared the front. She knew something was the matter but had no idea what.
“Why does everybody look pitiful towards me? What on earth could be so wrong with the way I look?” she thought over and over.
And then she sat down, at which point there was a loud squelch. It all suddenly made sense to her. When she had sat on the toilet to do her makeup, her beautiful long bow had gone down the toilet and had completely soaked the back of her dress!
