A Disturbed Bathtime
Justin smiled and exhaled a sigh of relief as he closed his eyes and enjoyed listening to the sound of water filling his bathtub. It had been a long day at the office, and he couldn’t wait to let go of his troubles. When the bath was filled, he poured himself a glass of wine and clambered into the tub. Justin laid back and soon got into total relaxation as the flickering candles and silence surrounded him. He didn’t give much thought to the fact that it was his birthday; he was just grateful that he finally had peace and quiet after a particularly stressful day.
Justin’s peace was soon interrupted, however, by the sound of the telephone ringing downstairs. He lived with his sister, but she was away on a business trip and wouldn’t be back for another two days, so he knew that he would have to get out and answer the call. Since his sister was away, he didn’t worry about putting a towel around himself for fear that he would miss the call.
He hurried downstairs into the pitch-black living room to grab the phone. While Justin was nearing the telephone, he was treading carefully because he was dripping water everywhere, but the ringing stopped, and the lights flashed on with the sound of sixty voices shouting “Surprise!”
Justin frightfully turned to see the faces of his friends and family, who were equally as shocked and embarrassed. He immediately darted back towards the stairs but, instead, slipped in the puddles, which coincidentally sent him sliding towards his surprise party guests.
He looked up at his sister, who was standing at the front of the crowd. Obviously, she had only pretended to be away as a clever ruse to sneak people into the house.
“My, my…what a big surprise,” his sister awkwardly said.
