Modul 5: Hangutánzó szavak: 05 Jessie’s tingle

Sounds: click, creak, patter

Video 01

Hiya! A couple of more sounds today. Let’s start with some pictures and the sounds themselves.

This is a hinge. When a door is old, it makes some noise. We call it a creak. The hinge is creaking. Look at this wooden floor now. Yep, it makes the same noise. Loads of films use this cliché: a creaky wooden floor.

Sometimes floors do not creak, but you can hear light footsteps on them. Just listen. You can hear the footsteps, right? You can hear the patter of feet.

And what was that? Well, it was the click of a revolver cock. Listen to it again.

Now let’s apply these sounds to a western story. Here we go.

The Story: Jessie’s tingle

Jessie was sitting in the pub with his back towards the swing door. The air was filled with smoke, cigarette smoke that is. There were only a few customers hanging around.

Then he heard it: the creak of the hinges. Then… nothing. Jessie waited. He felt a tingle along his spine: danger! Then he heard the patter of feet coming towards him and the creaking of the floor here and there.

Jessie slowly put his hand on his revolver and cocked it. [click] Suddenly something touched his hand; something wet. He looked down and chuckled: it was the barber’s dog!

Okay, folks. This is it for today. Now go, practise. See you soon!
